Pirates squash Banana Slugs on senior day

Southwestern closed the regular season in style with a 74-56 win over UC Santa Cruz at home on Saturday. Four seniors played their final home game, including Carson Severson, Blake Scott, Adrian Johnson, Travis Kurtz.

Tensions rose quickly in the first half as Southwestern manufactured a 14-3 run to lead 28-15 with 3:30 to play in the first. The Pirates pushed all the way to the buzzer and took a 13 points lead into the break, 32-19. Chris Lee led the Pirates with 10 points on 4-8 shooting from the floor, 1-3 from three point range.

Southwestern rose above a scrappy start to the second half to push their lead to 21, 52-31 with 12 minutes remaining. SU never let off the gas as they closed out the game easily.

Blake Scott led Southwestern with 15 points as SU shot 38.3% from the floor and 35.3% from three point range. Chris Lee added in 13 points. Southwestern had a narrow margin, 43-41, on the boards, but Southwestern forced the Banana Slugs into 22 turnovers.

The Pirates end the regular season at 14-10 on the year. They head to the conference tournament next weekend as the #3 seed. Match-ups and game times will be released on Monday by the SCAC.
