Men’s basketball extends win streak to three

Southwestern posted a 79-74 win over LeTourneau University on Tuesday to push their win streak to three and improve to 4-4 on the year.

Zach Whitlock led the Pirates with 21 points and 11 rebounds, posting his second double-double of the season.

SU shot out to an eight point lead after opening the game on an 8-0 run. Ryan Ogden's three with 12:20 to play in the half pushed the Pirates' lead to 14, 23-9, but LeTourneau closed the half on an 8-2 run to cut into Southwestern's lead. At the half, SU led by five, 42-37.

As the second half got underway, the Yellow Jackets hung close and eventually took the lead, 52-51, on Aaron Frizell's layup with 11:15 remaining.

Josh Mann answered with a three on the next possession to hand the lead back to Southwestern and the Pirates closed the game from the free throw line to seal the win.

Southwestern shot 51% from the floor and 31.2% from three point range while holding LeTourneau to 37.3% from the floor. Blake Scott added in 15 points and Chris Lee 10 in the win. LeTourneau was led by Frizell with 14 points.

The Pirates remain in Tyler to face UT Tyler on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
