Southwestern makes it two in a row with win over PLU

The Pirates won their second game in as many days in San Antonio with a 53-49 win over Pacific Lutheran on Saturday. 

Southwestern trailed by six points at the half, 26-20, after shooting just 33 percent from the field and 11 percent from three point range. 

The Pirates got a huge shot of energy off the bench from Ryan Ogden who scored 14 points in 15 minutes in the second frame.

SU trailed by ten, 32-22, with 15:59 remaining and then the Pirates hit a hot streak for a 6-0 run and continued to chip away at the 'Lutes' lead. 

Travis Kurtz's layup with 1:21 remaining gave Southwestern the lead for the first time in the second half and the Pirates sealed the win from the free throw line. 

Southwestern shot 36.6 percent from the floor and 18 percent from three point range. Ogden led the Pirates with 20 points in 27 minutes, shooting 5-7 from the field, 2-3 from three point range and 8-10 from the free throw line. 

Zach Whitlock added in 17 points and a team high eight rebounds. PLU's Brandon Lester led the Lutes with 21 points as Pacific Lutheran was forced into 14 turnovers. 

Southwestern improves to 3-5 on the year while Pacific Lutheran falls to 2-7 overall. The Pirates break for the holidays and return to action on December 30th, facing LeTourneau University in Tyler, Texas at 2:30 p.m.
