COX HONORED AS ARTHUR ASHE, JR SPORTS SCHOLARSeptember 08, 2010Anthony Cox, a 2010 graduate of Southwestern University, was named as one of twelve men's basketball players nationally, throughout all divisions, as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar by Diverse Issues in Higher Education Magazine. Cox is the lone SCAC representative on the list.

COX AND HERBST EARN SCAC ALL-SPORTSMANSHIP TEAM SELECTIONSMarch 24, 2010SUWANEE, Ga. The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its second annual Mens and Womens Basketball All-Sportsmanship teams. Twelve mens basketball and twelve womens basketball student-athletes were selected to the 2009-2010 squads, including Southwestern's A.C. Cox and Jessica Herbst.

BROWN LEADS PIRATES IN ALL-SCAC VOTINGFebruary 27, 2010JACKSON, Miss. - Jonathan Brown, a junior forward from Houston, Texas, as named to the All-SCAC Second Team for the 2009-2010 season. Brown was the earned the highest honors for Southwestern and joins senior Travis Barber, Zach Bergstrom and junior Nick Caputo in the report who were Honorable Mention selections.

PIRATES SET SIGHTS ON SCAC TOURNAMENT, FACE DEPAUW IN FIRST ROUNDFebruary 22, 2010GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern men's basketball team has earned a bid to the SCAC tournament after finishing 16-9 overall and 9-7 in the SCAC. The Pirates will enter the tournament as the third seed in the West and face DePauw University, the number two seed in the East, on Friday at 8:00 pm in Jackson, Miss.

PIRATES DROP LAST CONFERENCE ROAD GAME TO AUSTIN COLLEGEFebruary 14, 2010SHERMAN, Texas - In a game to get one step closer to the #1 seed in the West at the SCAC conference tournament the Pirate men's basketball team fell to Austin College 76-64 in Sherman Sunday afternoon. Southwestern sits alone in second place in the conference at 16-8 overall and 9-6 in the conference while Austin College moves further ahead in first place at 18-5 on the year and 11-3 in the SCAC.

FREE THROW DIFFERENTIAL SINKS PIRATES IN COLORADOFebruary 13, 2010COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pirates shot just eight free throws in the entire game while the Tigers had 29 attempts from the charity stripe as SU fell 81-67 in SCAC action on Friday night. The loss drops Southwestern to second place in the West at 16-7 overall and 9-5 in the SCAC.

PIRATES DEFEND HOME COURT AGAINST HENDRIX UPSET BIDFebruary 06, 2010GEORGETOWN, Texas - Junior Jonathan Brown's low post jumper gave Southwestern the lead with five ticks left on the clock and proved to be the game winner as the Pirates defeated Hendrix College 60-58 in SCAC action on Saturday night in the Robertson Center. SU improves to 16-6 on the year and 9-4 in the conference while Hendrix falls to 6-13 overall and 3-10 in the SCAC.

SU TURNS UP DEFENSIVE PRESSURE TO DEFEAT MILLSAPS 53-39February 05, 2010GEORGETOWN, Texas Southwestern University held Millsaps College to their lowest point total of the season, 39 points, as they cruised to their 15th win of the season, 53-39, to secure a spot in the SCAC tournament at the end of the month. SU moves to 15-6 overall and 7-4 in the conference while the Majors fall to 9-11 overall and 5-7 in SCAC action.

PIRATES FALL TO BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN IN BATTLE OF FIRST PLACE TEAMSJanuary 30, 2010GEORGETOWN, Texas Southwestern shot just 54.5% from the free throw line as they lost 59-67 to Birmingham-Southern in a clash of the SCAC titans. The Pirates fall to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the SCAC and out of first place momentarily to Austin College who has yet to play their second game of the weekend. Birmingham Southern remains at the top of the East with an 8-3 conference record and 16-3 overall.

STINGY DEFENSE LIFTS PIRATES TO RUNAWAY VICTORYJanuary 29, 2010GEORGETOWN, Texas Southwestern held the usually sharp-shooting Rhodes College Lynx to just 22 second half points and 22.8% shooting for the game to take the 63-46 SCAC victory Saturday evening. With the win the Pirates remain in first place in the West and are just one game shy of securing a berth in the postseason.

PIRATES EMERGE VICTORIOUS IN CENTRE BARNSTORMER 70-69January 23, 2010DANVILLE, Ky. The Southwestern mens basketball team pulled out all the stops against a tough Centre College team and left with the 70-69 victory in a crucial SCAC match-up. The Pirates remain in first place in the West with a 13-5 overall record and 6-3 SCAC record for the 2009-10 season. Centre falls to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in the conference with the loss.

PIRATES' COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AT DEPAUWJanuary 22, 2010GREENCASTLE, Ind. DePauw led by as many as 21 in the second half, but had to survive a Southwestern rally that found the Pirates within four with 3:56 remaining. The Tigers claimed the 68-61 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over the visiting Pirates to improve to 13-4 overall and 6-2 in the conference while the Pirates fall to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in the SCAC.
