Southwestern University Pirates baseball pitcher Austin Smith was named to one of the four rosters for the 2019 Major League Dreams Showcase, which will be hosted by the Madison Mallards at Warner Park on Tuesday, Aug. 6. 

Smith has been competing in the Northwoods summer league for the Duluth Huskies, where he has a 3.45 ERA in 26 innings pitched with 26 strikeouts competing against players from all three NCAA divisions.

The annual Showcase will consist of a double-header featuring the top players from the Northwoods League who were selected by a panel of Major League Baseball Scouts. The players will participate in workouts in front of scouts which will be followed by the double-header.

In his sophomore season for Southwestern University, Smith finished with a 7-2 record in 11 appearances, throwing 110 strikeouts in 79.1 innings pitched with a 3.18 ERA, earning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Pitcher of the Year and American Baseball Coaches Association and D3Baseball.com All-Region honors.
