GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Southwestern University baseball team was one of 33 NCAA Division III institutions to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association, the organization announced on Tuesday.

In its inaugural season, the award is given to teams that maintains a 3.0 GPA or better during the academic year. In all, 140 high school and college programs were recognized with the inaugural award.

The Pirates, who are led by head coach R.J. Thomas, combined for a 3.15 GPA in the spring semester.
