Pirates overwhelmed by Texas-Dallas on Tuesday night

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Texas-Dallas scored nine runs in the third inning and rolled to a 21-4 victory over Southwestern in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Rockwell Field.

The Comets (11-10), who had 20 hits on the night, sent 13 batters to the plate in the decisive inning. Eight of the nine starting batters scored a run in the third.

The Pirates (7-18) were limited to six hits and plated runs in three frames.

Southwestern had a 1-0 lead in the second, as Austyn Laird crossed the plate on Ethan Widoff's fielder's choice.

However, Texas-Dallas put the big inning together in its next at-bat to take control of the game.

Laird produced a two-run single in the bottom of the panel to cut into the lead.

The Comets tallied two more runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, five in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Kevin Wallace's sacrifice fly allowed Samuel Cox to score the final tally of the game in the bottom of the eighth.

Clayton Haag (0-1) took the loss for the Pirates after tossing one-third of an inning. He allowed six runs (four earned) on four hits and walked one.

Michael Deacon (1-0) earned the win after hurling two scoreless stanzas out of the bullpen.

Southwestern will travel to Sherman this weekend to open a three-game series with Austin College.
