There was magic in the air that March afternoon as Austyn Laird gave Pirates fans a 12-11 win in thrilling fashion with one swing of the bat. 

Trinity led early with three runs in the first and added three more in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 9-2 after four and a half. The Southwestern offense fired back and exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 9-8. With two runs in the bottom of the sixth Southwestern took the lead briefly 10-9, but Trinity tied the game in the seventh. 

The Tigers took the lead with one run in the ninth and set the stage for the Priates offense and their late game heroics. Clayton Sparks led off the inning with an infield single as he beat the pitcher to first base in a foot race.  Representing the winning run at the plate, Laird blasted a towering shot over the fence in left center field for the walk off two run homer and sealed the win 12-11 for Southwestern.

SU ended the 2015 season with a 20-22 mark after a run in the SCAC Championship as the #4 seed. The Pirates fell to Centenary in the First Round and turned around to defeat Texas Lutheran in the elimination game 3-2 before falling to Trinity 7-2 in the Semifinals.
