Baseball postseason run snapped by Tigers

Baseball postseason run snapped by Tigers

Southwestern struck first but Trinity ultimately took the win to end the Pirates' postseason run in the SCAC Championships Saturday, falling 7-2.

SCAC Player of the Year Will Cates opened the game with a leadoff single and eventually scored on Jared Bogsian's RBI single up the middle.

The lead held until the bottom of the third where the Tigers piled on four runs on three hits to take a 4-1 lead.

Southwestern still had plenty of fight left in them and pushed another run across in the fourth after Cates doubled, stole third and crossed home on a wild pitch.

Trinity just had more fire power as they scored one in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to go up 7-2. Southwestern had their ducks on the pond in the latter innings, but weren't able to capitalize as the game came to a close.

Cates led the Pirates at the plate, going 2-4 with two runs scored and Bogosian also posted a 2-4 outing with the only SU RBI. Jeremy Rice suffered the loss, allowing two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out one in 2.1 innings of work.

The Pirates end the year at 20-22 overall and third in the SCAC.
