Baseball ends regular season with Saturday split

The Pirates dropped game one against Schreiner 10-7 before exploding for an 11-1 win in game two to end regular season action Saturday.

Southwestern led early, scoring one run in the first and second inning, but their bats quieted just as Schreiner heated up. The Mountaineers tied the game in the third 2-2 and added two more in the fifth.

The Pirates came back and snagged the lead in the sixth with three runs, but Schreiner had the sprint to the finish with one in the sixth and five in the eighth.

Jacob Kendra got the no-decision start, allowing four runs on ten hits in 4.1 innings. Noah Clark garnered the loss. At the plate, Ben Little, Robert Wehman and Chase Allen all went 2-4.

Feelign the sting from game one Southwestern used a steady stream of runs to take the run rule 11-1 win in game two. SU scored one in the first, three in the second and five in the fifth to have a comfortable lead that would never be in jeopardy the rest of the way.

Will Preston earned the win in six innings of work, allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out four.

Will Cates had a huge game two, going 3-4 from the plate with five RBIs and three runs scored. Colten Shea added to the onslaught with a 2-3 days with three runs.

Southwestern closes the regular season at 19-20 on the year and 8-10 in the SCAC. They are positioned for a #4 seed slot in the 2015 SCAC Conference Championship to be held in Shreveport, LA next weekend.
