Southwestern Splits on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern split with Texas Lutheran on Saturday winning game one 5-3 and dropping the second 7-1.

In the first game of the afternoon, Texas Lutheran jumped out to a 1-0 lead on three hits in the top of the first inning.

Southwestern got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third.  Dickson Wharton reached on an error, Jason McCormack was hit by a pitch, and Will Cates drew a walk to load the bases.  Ben Little stepped up to the plate and smacked a two RBI single through the right side of the infield.  Following a balk, Cates scored on a sacrifice fly by Clayton Sparks.  Then Robert Wehman drove in Little to put the Pirates up 4-1.

The Bulldogs closed the gap in their half of the fourth inning.  They started their two out rally with a pair of walks and both runners scored on a double down the left field line by Austin Frick to make it a 4-3 ball game.

The Pirates added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.  Wehman reached on an infield single to the shortstop and later scored on a single to left field by Chase Allen for the 5-3 final score.
