Four Pirates earn SCAC accolades on the diamond

SAN ANTONIO – Jake Pawelek highlighted honors received by the Southwestern University baseball team earning All-SCAC accolades announced by the league office today at the SCAC Baseball Championships.

Pawelek was joined by senior Zach Lynch and sophomores Colten Shea and Charlie St. Clair who all earned Honorable Mention honors. The quartet helped the Pirates more than quadruple their wins from last season under second-year head coach RJ Thomas and clinched the final spot in the SCAC Tournament on the final weekend of the regular season.

A Seguin, Texas, native, Pawelek led the Pirates with a .417 on base percentage and hit .294 on the season. He also added a team-high two triples while finishing the season with two doubles and nine RBIs.

Lynch, led the Pirates with 41 base hits and 19 walks in his final season. He also set a Southwestern single-game record with four stolen bases against Schreiner on March 7 as he finished second on the team with 16.

Shea joined the group as he paced the way for the Pirates with a team-high 18 stolen bases and also tied Lynch's single-game record with four stolen bases against Mary Hardin-Baylor. The duo helped the Pirates set a new single-season record with 106 stolen bases entering the conference tournament – the previous record was 92 set in 2002.

St. Clair finished second on the team in batting average (.297), slugging percentage (.362), doubles (7), total bases (50) while leading the team in runs scored with 26. He also added 14 stolen bases and finished with the third most RBIs with 14.
