Pirates drop road series at Emory

ATLANTA – For the second time this weekend Southwestern posted a late rally that fell just short as the Pirate baseball team fell 7-4 at Emory to close out a non-conference baseball series at Chappell Park.

Emory (24-9) finished off the three-game sweep of Southwestern (10-26) as the Pirates will return to conference action next weekend.

Colten Shea recorded three base hits going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs to help pace the Pirate offense on Saturday. Shea scored his fir run of the day in the fourth inning as Will Cates pushed a ground ball to second base to make it a one-run ballgame.

Shea would help give the Pirates a lead momentarily when a single through the right side scored Ben Little. Little finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored as well while Shea crossed the plate on an Eagle error give Southwestern a 3-2 lead.

However, the lead was short lived as the Eagles pushed four runs across in the fifth on five hits to take a 6-3 lead.

Little singled home Clayton Sparks in the ninth inning, but the Pirates were unable to earn any more runs in the loss.

Jason Stading threw 4.2 innings and was charged with six runs as his record fell to 1-4 on the year.

Southwestern returns to Rockwell Field to close out the home schedule against the University of Dallas. The three game series will open on Friday night with first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
