Pirates Drop Both Games to Sul Ross State

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Pirates' bats were alive on Saturday but couldn't string enough hits together as they fell 15-11 and 11-4 on Saturday to Sul Ross.

The first game had the Pirates in the lead 3-1 in the 1st inning. Colton Shea scored on a wild pitch, and both Zachary Lynch and Cruz Luna scored on singles by Luna and Jay Sterling.

Between the top of the second and fifth innings, the Lobos would outscore the Pirates 8-1. Sul Ross State scored most of the runs in the top of the third, scoring four in the inning. By the middle of the fifth, Southwestern found themselves down 9-4.

Southwestern would get back into the game by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. After loading the bases, Lynch and Luna both scored on a single by Sterling. Jeff Glasgow doubled later that inning, clearing the bases and giving SU an 11-9 lead.

Unfortunately, the Pirates had no answer in the final two innings as the Lobos went on a 6-0 run to steal the win 15-11.

Sterling and Ross Meyer led at the plate going 3-4 in game one with Sterling posting three RBIs along with Jeff Glasgow.

In game two of the doubleheader, Sul Ross State was the first to jump out, leading 4-0. The Pirates cut the deficit to two, 4-2, with runs by Glasgow after Lynch doubled down the right field line and advanced to third on an error by the left fielder. Lynch then scored on Luna's single. The third featured a run by each team due to an error.

The last five innings then belonged to the Lobos as they again outscored the Pirates 6-1 to win 11-4.

Sterling once again led at the plate, going 3-5 while Lynch and Luna had two hits each. Cody Lovas garnered the loss on the mound.

The loss dropped Southwestern to 2-22 on the season, while Sul Ross State improves to 8-12. The Pirates will close the series tomorrow at home again at 1:00PM.
