MEET RESULTS

Coach Steven Cary said the competition "was perfect for our women today. I thought our ladies really competed well and left it out there on the course."

In her first collegiate race, Pertuit showed no apparent jitters as she finished with a time of  21:25 and averaged 6:53  a mile.

"I'm happy with the way Emma Pertuit ran," Cary said. "I think this will be a great springboard into some of our more competitive meets later in the season."

Also competing in her first collegiate race, Lauren Calzado came in seventh place with a time of 22:28 while averaging  7:13 a mile. Sophomore Emma McCandless placed 17th with a time of 23:56 averaging 7:42 a mile.

"I'm also very proud of Lauren Calzado and Emma McCandless," the coach said. "Both of those ladies really rose to the occasion this morning. They've both improved since the beginning of preseason, so I really like the trajectory of their season right now. We built some confidence this morning, something we'll need in 3 weeks at OLLU."

Up next, The Southwestern women's cross country team will travel to San Antonio, to compete in the Saints Invitational at Our Lady of the Lake University on Sept. 21st.
