Men’s and women’s cross country take fourth at Concordia Invite

ROUND ROCK, Texas – In their final regular season meet of the year, the Pirates ran well against familiar competition as both teams finished in fourth place in their respective 5K meets.

It was a misty morning at the start of the women's race at Old Settlers Park as the Pirates blasted off the line. Emily Boujemaa was fast off the line and out in the front of the pack. She was able to stay out in front of the group most of the way and finished in 20th with a time of 21:09.94.

Brianna Timourian continues to get stronger and wasn't far behind, bringing home 17 points with a 24th place finish in a time of 21:40.28. Danielle King finished in 21:43.19 for 26th place.

Valerie Vacek posted a time of 23:40.97 for a 36th place finish and Zainab Oketokun finished in 38th place with a time of 23:51.54. Aimee Slagle (42nd) and Tori McGraw (47th) rounded out the Pirates team effort with times of 24:21.67 and 25:37.25 respectively.

For the start of the men's race the mist had lifted by the overcast skies remained as SU took to the line. A short, 5K race saw the men fly off the line and quickly make the turn back towards the fans. Alex Medrano was in the mix with the leaders early on, but fell behind just slightly midway through the course and ended with an impressive top ten finish. He finished in sixth with a time of 16:45.57, less than a minute behind the winner, Angel Ramirez, who was running unattached.

Abraham Devenport was next across the line for the Pirates and started a burst of SU finishers. Devenport finished in 19:09.37 for 29th place, Kyle Bauernschmitt in 19:43.30 for 33rd place, Hector Aleman in 22:09.48 for 40th place and Joseph Quintero in 42nd place with a time of 23:09.79.

This was the final regular season contest of the Pirates as they next head to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the SCAC Championships on November 1st
