Boujemaa and Medrano pace Pirate runners

SEGUIN, Texas – Emily Boujemaa and Alex Medrano both earned top 10 finishes Saturday morning at the Texas Lutheran Invitational.

Medrano rank to a 9th place finish as he was the top NCAA DIII finisher in a race that saw runners from all three divisions on Saturday. It was a season best for Medrano who finished the race with a time of 17:38.99.

Kyle Bauernschmitt was the next highest finisher for the Pirate men as he crossed the finish line with a time of 19:30.33. Alex Riggs, Mauro Garcia, Hugo Cepeda and Joey Quintero rounded out the finishers for Southwestern.

On the women's side, Boujemaa placed fourth behind a pair of Texas A&M-Kingsville runners and Sarah Fritzsche of Texas Lutheran who finished first. Boujemaa continued an impressive first season with Pirate cross country as she posted a time of 20:33.21.

Brianna Timourian gave the Pirate women two top 10 finishers as she edged out a 10th place finish with a time of 22:12.89 – a season best.

Danielle King finished 13th while Izzy Lackner, Zainab Oketokoun, Colleen Nair, Valerie Vacek and Tori McGraw finished 22nd through 26th.  

Both Pirate squads take the next two weekends off as they prepare for the Hardin-Simmons Stampede Sept. 27 in Abilene, Texas.
