Duarte earns All-SCAC honors at 2013 Championships

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Southwestern women's cross country team got an All-SCAC performance from Lilly Duarte while six more runners finished with personal best times Saturday at the 2013 SCAC Championships.

Duarte raced to an eighth place finish with a time of 23:23.4 to earn the all-conference honor. Her time was just over a minute off the leader's pace of 22:02.4 that saw Maddie Murphy of Trinity take home individual honors.

Two of the runners racing to personal best times also finished in the top 25 as Kara Koinis finished 16th while Emily Ammon checked in at 25th. Koinis raced to a time of 24:16.1 while Ammon's personal best time came at 25:46.2.

Meg Greenfield, Zainab Oketokoun, Valerie Vacek and Tori McGraw also earned personal best times to help the Pirates earn a fifth place team finish. The duo of Brandi Martin and Meredith Donaldson also ran season best times for Southwestern.

Trinity took home the team title as they earned a perfect score as Colorado College finished second and Texas Lutheran earned third place honors.

Southwestern will head to the NCAA III South/Southeast Regional in Chesapeake, Va., November 16. The regional is hosted by Christopher Newport University as the Pirates will try to earn a berth at the NCAA III National Championships in Hanover, Indiana November 23.
