Duarte captures title in first 6K race of season

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Senior Lilly Duarte continued her domination of the competition, winning the Alamo City Classic on Saturday. 

The race was the first 6k distance of the year for the women and sets the stage for a change at the NCAA Championship. Duarte cruised to the win, finishing in a time of 23:04.67, over 30 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor, Vanessa Garcia of UT Brownsville. 

Kara Koinis was the second highest finisher for the Pirates, finishing in a time of 26:00.82 and in 20th place. Emily Ammon was hot on her heels, taking 23rd place in 26:25.08. 

Valerie Vacek finished in 28:42.83, Brandi Martin in 29:22.32, Meredith Donaldson in 30:43.52, and Tori McGraw in 32:03.22. 

The Pirates have one more meet before the SCAC Championships, competing in the Concordia Invitational in Cedar Park, Texas on October 19th.
