Southwestern University Pirates volleyball's Alyssa Dooley was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Offensive Player of the Week for her performances in matches played from Oct. 22 to Oct. 28.

Last week, the Pirates went 2-1 with Dooley averaging 3.73 kills per set, totaling 41 kills with a .326 hitting percentage. In the Pirates five-set loss to No. 10-ranked Trinity University, Dooley contributed a match-best 20 kills on an efficient .349 hitting percentage.

The Pirates ended the season on a 7-1 run in conference play, getting improved play from its young front row players, punctuated by Dooley earning Southwestern University's first SCAC Offensive Player of the Week award this season.

"I think Alyssa is doing a better job of making the right decisions and really connecting with [setter] Makenzie Mendez, so they had a great week of Alyssa making kills at critical times," Head Coach Don Flora said. "She's really grown in her ability to move the ball around the court, so her attack patterns are very different than they were at the beginning of the year, so her range has grown a ton.

"And she's just super athletic. She has a whip of an arm and she's way up in the air, so those two things together make her a threat all the time."

For the season, Dooley is second on the team in kills with 273, averaging 3.07 per set on a .208 hitting percentage. Her three-match hitting percentages from last weekend were .444, .214, and .349. She has also assisted on 28 blocks with three solo blocks and is second on the team in total points with 297.

The Pirates finished the season 16-11 with a 12-4 conference record, earning the third seed in the upcoming SCAC Championships and a quarterfinal match against Austin College on Friday, Nov. 2 at 6:00 p.m.
