Southwestern Comes Up Short to St. Thomas
GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern Volleyball fell in a heartbreaking match to St. Thomas Celts 3-1. Despite the Pirates fire at the beginning of the game, the Celts aggressive offense gave them the edge to take the win.

In the first set, the Pirates wasted no time gaining the lead on the Celts. Within ten minutes of the game, the Pirates had a lead of 12-3 and ended with a 25-11 score to set the tone of the game.

However, in the second set, the Celts came back with a vengeance and pulled a massive lead over the Pirates early in the game. The Pirates fought back to bring the score close, but the Celts Brook Garcia had several dangerous kills that led to the Celts winning the second set over the Pirates.

The last two games the Pirates and Celts battled hard to gain the led. In the third set, the Pirates came close once again but would fall 25-19. In the fourth set, the Pirates once again would not stop fighting to keep themselves in the game. But the Celts offense pulled through to have them win the game 3-1.

Don Flora comments, "We give St. Thomas a lot of credit for their ability to stay aggressive offensively with their pin hitters."

"This was a tremendous learning opportunity for our program. So, we will grow and develop.  The beauty is the sun comes up again tomorrow to get some work in getting focused on the key details that lead to success."

Up next the Pirates play another home game against Our Lady of the Lake Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 6:00 p.m.
