Three Pirates Named to AVCA All-Region Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the AVCA All-Region teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball as three student-athletes were named to the team from the Southwestern University volleyball team.

Senior Kate Mitchell and junior Megan Grimes each earned a spot on the first team while senior Piper Sisemore was named to the second team in the West Region.

Mitchell, a senior outside hitter from Roseville, Calif., was the team leader in kills with 346, good for fourth in the conference throughout the season as she was named to the first team of the All-SCAC team. Mitchell averaged 3.15 kills/set, which was fifth in the conference, and hit .312 on the season, good for sixth in the conference and among the top hitting outside hitters all throughout the season. 

Mitchell was even better during conference season, leading the conference in kills (172), points (212.5), and points/set (4.1) while placing second kills/set (3.31). Mitchell was third in service aces with 29 and fifth in hitting percentage at .353.

Grimes, a junior setter from Carrollton, Texas, was a second team All-SCAC selection. Grimes led the SCAC both throughout the season and in conference play in assists, finsihing with 1151 total assists and 10.01 assists/set in the year while going for 575 assists in SCAC play and 10.65 assists/set. 

Grimes also had 326 digs including 160 in conference play, good for 10th in the SCAC, as well as 127 total kills and 24 block assists. 

Sisemore, a senior middle blocker out of Lago Vista, Texas, was one of the top blockers throughout the SCAC season, finishing third in block solos with 24 and fifth in block assists with 58. Sisemore was named to the All-SCAC Team's first team. Sisemore's 12 block solos in conference play was the best in the SCAC. 

Sisemore finished with 239 kills, good for fourth on the Pirates, to go with 2.25 kills/set. Sisemore was eighth in the SCAC in points with 319.0 throughout the entire season.
