Red Hot Attack Paces No. 3 Pirates Past OLLU

GEORGETOWN - Playing at the Robertson Center for the first time since September 23rd, the No. 3 ranked Southwestern University volleyball team exacted revenge on an Our Lady of the Lake team that earned a five set win back on September 26th.

On this evening, it was all Pirates from start to finish, as they hit a red hot .355 as a team en route to a 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 victory. Southwestern was unstoppable on their attack, only committing five errors in the entire match while keeping the Angels in check on defense.

"The coaching staff was impressed with the level of composure from the entire team tonight," said Head Coach Don Flora. "This composure was evident in our warm up, by our side-out rhythm and by our high attack efficiency, which was really clean at .355."

Junior Jamison Duck led the attack with 11 kills while hitting .476 while senior Kate Mitchell had 10 kills, hitting .333. Freshman Maya Clausen added nine kills on a .444 attack percentage while sophomore Brittany Hohlt hit .429 to go with seven kills. Junior Megan Grimes added 37 assists and 14 digs.

Junior Brandi Campos had 11 digs while freshman Taylor Beltz chipped in 11 digs as well. Senior Piper Sisemore had four block assists while Hohlt and Duck each had three. The Pirates combined for 14 block assists as they stiffled the Angel offense.

"We liked our ability to transfer some hard work in the practice gym to game day in our blocking tonight," said Flora. "Having numerous quality block touches and 7 stuff blocks was a key to holding a really good offense to .151 hitting percentage."

Southwestern will look to build off their high quality play with the SCAC Tournament looming the following weekend.

"If we can continue to slightly ascend in our offensive efficiency we can play at a high level each match," said Flora.

The Pirates move to 26-4 overall and will prepare for their final regular season match on Saturday as they welcome in St. Mary's for Senior Night at 5 PM.
