Fifth-Ranked Pirates Earn Pair of SCAC Wins Over Dallas, Centenary

SEGUIN, Texas - The fifth-ranked Southwestern University volleyball team earned a pair of three set wins on Saturday afternoon over the University of Dallas and Centenary College (LA) to move to 16-2 overall and 4-1 in SCAC play.

In the early contest against Dallas, the Pirates cruised to a 25-6, 25-14, 25-14 win, hitting an impressive .309 with 39 kills and only 10 errors. Their defense was excellent as well as the Crusaders hit -.092 as a team with only 12 kills in the entire match.

Sophomore Brittany Hohlt led the attack with nine kills including a blisterin .643 hitting percentage while senior Piper Sisemore, sophomore Landri Brown, and freshman Maya Clausen all had six kills each while Sisemore hitting .667 and Clausen hitting .545.

Junior Megan Grimes had 33 assists to go with 13 digs while junior Brandi Campos added 12 digs. Sisemore had five blocks in the morning match while Grimes added three.

The Pirates took their hot hitting into their second matchup against the Ladies, hitting .347 as a team including 48 kills to only 13 errors while holding Centenary to .032 hitting. The Pirates cruised to a 25-16, 25-9, 25-21 win.

Clausen finished with a career-high 10 kills while Sisemore added 10 kills with both hitting over .300 in the match. Grimes finished with 38 assists while junior Jamison Duck and Campos led the defensive front with 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Senior Kate Mitchell added four blocks in the match.

The Pirates will be back in action tomorrow with a pair of huge SCAC matches beginning at 10 AM as Southwestern will battled No. 2 Colorado College in their second Top 5 matchup in 2017. They will follow up with Austin College at 2 PM.
