#3 Volleyball closes invitational with sweep to remain unbeaten

GEORGETOWN, Texas - #3 Southwestern didn't miss a beat as they returned to the court on Saturday, defeating Puget Sound 3-0.

The Pirates were a little tight in the first set but were able to pull out the win 26-24. As the match went on Southwestern got stronger defensively, holding UPS to a .167 attack percentage in set two and .000 in set three to easily win 25-17, 25-16.

Brittany Hohlt led with 13 kills while Kate Mitchell and Jamison Duck both hit over .300. Mitchell posted 12 kills and Duck 11. Megan Grimes was outstanding with 41 assists and Brandi Campos posted 17 digs. Hohlt also led SU with six blocking assists, tying the SU record for blocking assists in a three set match.

"Having a 3-0 weekend is a big statement about our progress as a team in the early-season," said Head Coach Don Flora.  "We did a lot of good things, but we need to learn how to maintain our focus and execution level for longer periods of time throughout each set."

"Having great production from Kate Mitchell all weekend was big-time and Megan Grimes continues to deliver a lot of great rhythm balls for our attackers.  There was a lot of great team play throughout the weekend. So, there is a lot to grow from and a lot to learn for this team. We are doing a lot quality things behind our block digging balls.  Our staff likes the mentality we are bringing to our overall defensive systems."

Southwestern (7-0) has a short turnaround as they head to Houston to face the University of St. Thomas (NAIA) on Tuesday evening at 6 pm.
