#5 Pirates upset by #16 Tigers in SCAC Final

SHREVEPORT, La. – Southwestern once again advanced to the SCAC Championship match but, unlike last season, were defeated by Trinity 3-1.

The Pirates came out strong and took the first set 25-20 but were unable to keep their hard-hitting offense firing as their attack percentage steadily dropped through the second and third sets.

Trinity took an early lead in the fourth set, one that would stand the rest of the way as SU was never able to take the lead as they dropped the set 25-20.

Southwestern ends the season at 30-4 overall and will have to wait to learn if they have received a bid to an NCAA Regional during the NCAA selection show on Monday.

SOUTHWESTERN LEADERS

HEAD COACH DON FLORA ON THE LOSS

"We set the tone to begin this conference championship match well. Our game plan, our attacking and mostly our defense made a strong impact.  It was high quality volleyball in set one. Set 2 we were in a battle and then had a tough injury. Yet, this true team dug deep, but we came up a hint short. I truly was impressed with how we gathered ourselves to start set four.  We gave ourselves a chance to climb back into the match, but I give Trinity credit.  They settled into a good rhythm for themselves and won set four."

"This is the type of match and situation that we want Southwestern volleyball to be in often, competing for championships!  This team has proven so much to so many people and most importantly -- to themselves so far this season."
