#3 SU drops first match, splits Saturday home SCAC action

GEORGETOWN, Texas - For the first time this season Southwestern dropped a match, falling to Trinity 3-2 before defeating Schreiner in conference action Saturday.

The Pirates were uncharateristically hesitant at the start of the match and dropped sets one and two 25-18, 25-20 after hitting .143 and -.089, respectively.

Southwestern showed true grit, however, and rallied to take the third and fourth sets 25-22 and 25-16 largely behind stellar serving. The Pirates were just one ace short of tying the Southwestern record for aces in a five-set match.

Trinity took a five point lead midway through the fifth set that SU wasn't able to recover from as they suffered their first match of the season.

It was all Southwestern in the final match of the weekend, however, as the Pirates easily handled Schreiner 3-0.

SU (20-1, 9-1) takes their talents to Virginia next to compete at #13 Christopher Newport for three games beginning with #16 Mary Washington on Friday.

COACH FLORA ON TRINITY

"I liked that we made the needed emotional and technical adjustments and found a way to compete and compete in a deep way. This was an elite college volleyball match; one that we will grow from immediately."

POST-MATCH INTERVIEW - NIKKI WELCH

COACH FLORA ON SCHREINER

"It'S always valuable to have teammates that have the internal drive to compete and play at a high level, and we learned some things today verses Schreiner. Haley Yu leading us in kills was good to see as well as how efficient her attacking was. Andie with 20 digs in 3 sets is a sign her effort is where it needs to be every match."
