#16 Pirates tune up for season against Shandong China Junior National Team

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Before embarking on their season opening tournament to Washington, Southwestern hosted Shandong out of China for an exhibition game Wednesday night.

In front of a great crowd, fans got their first look at the Pirates. Kate Mitchell led with nine kills while Haley Moffett was hugely effective off the bench with four kills on five attempts for a .600 attack percentage.

Southwestern hits the road for a quick turnaround and open with a huge match, taking on #8 Carthage on Friday night.

Head Coach Don Flora on his team's performance...
"Competing against an elite volleyball team like Shangdong (China) is a fantastic opportunity for our program. This match showed us how to take care of the small things. We need to be able to take care of the little details of each point. Also, this showed us that when someone makes a great play, you need to answer that type of volleyball with a great play of your own."

Head Coach Don Flora on the crowd tonight...
"There was a lot of great energy and a positive environment in the gym tonight and we hope to grow that atmosphere as the year takes shape."
