Volleyball extend win streak to 11

With two wins on Saturday to close the regular season, the Southwestern volleyball team improved to 25-8 and pushed their win streak to 11.

SU opened the day with a rematch with the hard-hitting Our Lady of the Lake University. A slow start allowed OLLU to post a .325 attack percentage and 25-22 win in set one. Southwestern reversed their fortune in set two, however, and hit .395 to win easily 25-12.

The Saints attempted a comeback in the third set, but to no avail, as the Pirates won 25-20 and then blew OLLU away in set four 25-12.

Kate Mitchell and Kaitlyn Foster led the attack for Southwestern with 13 kills each and Olivia Drummond added 10. Sydney Rochelle had 25 assists while Nikki Welch had 22. Andie Alford led with 19 digs and four aces.

UT Dallas proved to be no match for the Pirates in the final match of the day. The Comets kept SU on their toes, but ultimately the Pirates emerged with the wins 25-21, 25-19, 25-17.

Southwestern hit .238 as a team and was led by Foster with 11 and Kirby Kincannon with 10. Macey Pool posted 21 digs and Welch 23 assists.

The Pirates will look to ride their win streak into the post season as they enter the SCAC Conference Tournament as the #2 seed. They will play the winner of the #3 Colorado/#6 Austin College match at 6pm on Friday in Sherman.
