Volleyball dominates day one in Shreveport

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern rolled through day one of their second weekend of SCAC action, defeating Dallas 3-1 before taking down #10 Colorado College 3-0.

The Pirates struggled at the outset of the first match, posting a -.017 attack percentage, allowing the Dallas to take an early match lead with a 25-22 set one win.

Southwestern steadily improved the rest of the match, winning 25-13, 28-26 and 25-20 to take the match 3-1.

Kaitlyn Foster led with 11 kills while Macey Pool and Olivia Drummond were hot on her heels with 10 each. Nikki Welch posted 3—assists and Chandler Lentz had 28 digs to lead the Pirates. Kirby Kincannon added in six digs.

The first set between SU and Colorado College was tight, but the Pirates took an early lead, 6-2, and refused to let up. The Pirates opened with a 25-20 set one win and just continued to get stronger as the match went on, winning in dominating fashion 25-13 and 25-15 to close out the 3-0 win.

Offensively, Southwestern was let by Kaitlyn Foster who had 11 kills with no errors for a .344 attack percentage while the Pirates as a team hit .216. The true difference maker in the match, however, was defensively as SU posted ten more digs and 14 more blocks. Foster had 23 digs while Macey Pool added in 20. Kirby Kincannon was sensational at the net with seven blocks while Abbie Robb added in five.

Southwestern improves to 11-6 on the year and 4-1 in the SCAC. They remain in Shreveport to face Austin College at 10 am and host school Centenary College at 4 pm.
