Volleyball sweeps day one at Trinity Invite

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Pirates dominated on Friday evening as they opened the Trinity Invitational, taking down Puget Sound and George Fox 3-0, 3-0.

Southwestern was firing on all cylinders in the first match, posting a .216 attack percentage while hold PSU to -.009 for the entire match. The Pirates were never threatened as they won easily, 25-13, 25-11, 25-18.

Abbie Robb led with seven kills while Macey Pool added in five. Nikki Welch recorded 21 assists as she spread the ball around the deep attacking core of the Pirates and Kaitlyn Foster had 12 digs.

The win gave Southwestern confidence which they used to destroy George Fox with an unrelenting attack, posting attack percentages of .289, .297 and .372 to win 3-0. Foster and Kirby Kincannon led the charge with 11 a piece while Olivia Drummond added in nine on just 14 attempts for an impressive .643 attack percentage. Pool led with 18 digs and Kincannon led with five blocks.

Now 6-4 on the year, Southwestern remains in San Antonio to face #18 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 2:30 and Linfield at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
