Volleyball falls to Wittenberg; defeats Wheaton 3-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – SU's offensive struggles continued in their first match of the day as they dropped three straight, but rebounded with a 3-0 win of their own in game two over Wheaton.

Both teams' offenses were slow to start as Wittenberg hit .070 in set one, but SU posted a -.053 attack percentage and fell 25-17. WU got stronger in the final two sets and were just too powerful for SU as they fell 29-27 and 25-19.

Kaitlyn Foster led with eight kills and 16 digs while Chandler Lentz added in 14 digs and Sydney Rochelle 14 assists.

It was all Southwestern in match two as the Pirates charged out of the gate with a .218 attack percentage while holding Wheaton to .000, winning the first set 25-18.

With momentum in hand, the Pirates cruised to the match win with 25-19 and 25-23 set two and three wins.

Kate Mitchell posted a team high 14 kills and a .571 attack percentage while Abbie Robb added nine. Foster had 19 digs and Lentz 16.

For their outstanding play over the weekend, Foster and Lentz earned All-Tournament team picks.

Now 4-4 on the year, Southwestern heads to San Antonio to take on Puget Sound and George Fox on Friday beginning at 5 p.m.
