History repeats itself in crushing fashion as Pirates fall 3-2 to Trinity in NCAA Regional Semifinal

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The epic battle fans anticipated materialized as Trinity and Southwestern met for the fourth time this season. It took an extended fifth to decide the match as TU emerged with the win, 3-2.

Southwestern started the match strong, posting a .273 hitting percentage with 17 kills and just five errors. Trinity was just as strong, hitting .257, but SU pulled out the win 26-24 with a late set rally.

A tight second set went the way of Southwestern again as they pulled out the 25-23 win with a .211 attack percentage while holding Trinity to .180.

The tides turned in the third set as Trinity's attack was nearly unstoppable in the third set as they posted an unbelievable .366 attack percentage while hitting just .167 for the set. Southwestern fell 25-20 as the Tigers gathered strength from the win, moving into the fourth set.

Trinity's offensive attack cooled but was just hot enough to take the fourth set 25-20, forcing the decisive fifth set.

Southwestern started out down 4-2 before rattling off six straight points to lead 8-5. Trinity responded with four straight to even the count 9-9. It was a battle from there on out as the game hit and surpassed the 15 point mark.

Each team had three chances set point opportunities before Trinity secured the win 21-19 in the fifth set.

Southwestern ends the season at 27-12 overall and say goodbye to three seniors, Chandler Lentz, Lorin Froetschel and Jessica Shipp
