Three Pirates earn All-SCAC Volleyball Honors

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Southwestern opened the SCAC Championship on Friday afternoon and did so with a 3-0 win over Schreiner University.

Schreiner led early, 8-11, but Southwestern stormed back into the lead with six straight points to go up 14-11 halfway through the first set. The Mountaineers reclaimed the lead with four straight points in response, but SU dug deep and got three big kills from Olivia Drummond to take set one 25-21.

As the second set got underway, Schreiner again took a slight lead 14-13, halfway through the set, but this time Southwestern pulled out two big three point runs with kills from Kaitlyn Foster while capitalizing on the Mountaineers' mistakes to win the second set 25-18.

Through two sets Abbie Robb was having a huge impact for the Pirates, hitting .545 in set one and two with no attack errors in 11 attempts. She picked up where she left off in the start of the third set, putting away two of SU's first three points and jump starting the Pirate offense to a 6-1 lead.

Macey Pool and Foster were unstoppable the rest of the way as the Pirates secured the 3-0 win with a 25-20 set three victory.

Robb ended the match with a .316 attack percentage and eight kills while Foster added in 14 kills with a .286 hitting percentage. Poole ended with 11 kills and Drummond six with no errors on 17 attempts.

Foster led in digs with 20 while Chandler Lentz was close behind with 19. Nikki Welch posted 35 assists.

The Pirates face the winner of #7 University of Dallas and #2 Colorado College on Friday night at 7 p.m.
