Volleyball sweeps through day two of SCAC Cross

KERRVILLE, Texas - Southwestern strengthened as the day went on as the Pirates won 3-0 over Texas Lutheran and Schreiner to begin the year 2-1 in the SCAC.

The Pirates started by taking advantage of Texas Lutheran's errors as the Bulldogs hit -.040 and -.100 in the first two sets as SU won easily 25-19, 25-12. Southwestern's defense continued to run on all cylinders as they cruised to a 25-18 victory in the third set to take the match 3-0.

Macey Pool and Kaitlyn Foster led the attack with eight kills each while Lorin Froetschel and Foster each posted five blocks.

Southwestern just got stronger against Schreiner to close out the weekend. The Pirates began with a .211 attack percentage in a 25-16 win in set one and .178 in set two to win 25-17 in the second set. With all the momentum on their side SU dominated the final set, winning handily 25-8.

Meredith Rollins and Pool each had eight kills to lead and Nikki Welch posted 19 assists. Foster had 17 digs to lead defensively with Chandler Lentz close behind with 16.

The win improves the Pirates to 10-5 on the year and 2-1 in SCAC play. They come home for the first time this season next weekend, hosting the SCAC Divisional on Saturday and Sunday. They open with Austin College on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
