Volleyball sweeps weekend matches

SHERMAN, Texas - The Southwestern volleyball team went the whole weekend without dropping a match, winning all four contests 3-0. 

The Pirates opened play against Southwestern Assemblies of God and gradually got stronger as the match progressed, winning 25-22, 25-18, 25-11. As a team SU hit an impressive .312 and was led by Allison Stubbs who posted 10 kills and Olivia Drummond who made the most of her attempts, putting away seven of her 12 attempts with only one error for a .500 attack percentage. Kaitlyn Foster recorded a team high 23 digs and tied for a team high four blocks with Lorin Froetschel. Froetschel also added three aces in the match.

Bacone was next up for the Southwestern and proved to be no match for the Pirates as they won easily 25-18, 25-21, 25-19. Foster and Abbie Robb led the way offensively with 12 kills each while Foster and led in digs (12) and Nikki Welch in assists (17). Southwestern hit .245 as a team and held Bacone to just .156.

On day two Southwestern's defense just continued to improve as they held Wheaton to an .080 attack percentage en route to a 25-15, 25-22, 25-18 win. Stubbs once again led with 12 kills while Robb was close behind with nine. Welch posted 23 assists and Foster 21 digs.

The sweep was made a reality after a 25-11, 25-21, 25-14 win over Sul Ross State University. Drummond was unstoppable once again as she posted an awe-inspiring .875 attack percentage (7-0-8). Riley Caskey also posted seven kills in the match while Welch recorded 17 digs to lead the way defensively.

The wins improve SU to 7-1 on the year. They head to Atlanta, Georgia this weekend to face their toughest matches to date, taking on three nationally-ranked programs at the Emory Invitational.
