#6 Southwestern Volleyball Snags Third at SCAC Conference Tournament

The Pirates suffered an upset loss at the hands of Trinity in the semifinals of the SCAC Conference Tournament on Saturday and rallied to easily defeat Millsaps in the consolation match to finish in third place.

Southwestern started out extremely strong against Trinity, posting a .234 hitting percentage to win the first set 25-23, but then hit a tough patch as they dropped the second and third 25-11 and 25-21 with a .000 and -.045 hitting percentage.

After the tough losses the Pirates just couldn't get back on track and dropped the fourth set narrowly, 25-22.

Allison Stubbs (pictured) led with 12 kills and Rachel Thibodeau posted 22 digs in the match.

The loss dropped SU into the consolation round to face Millsaps College for third and fourth place. Southwestern returned to form and steadily built up steam throughout. The Pirates pushed to the set one win, 26-24, won the second set 25-23 and closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the third.

Rachel Thibodeau led with 14 kills while Jill Wigington added in 11. Christina Nicholls and Sarai Tenerelli had 13 digs each.

Southwestern stands at 30-3 on the year and seem to be in the NCAA National Tournament despite the slip-up. They will find out their fate on Monday at 10am CT via the selection show at NCAA.com.
