#14 PIRATES HIT HARD IN FINAL GAMES AT TRINITY FALL CLASSIC

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern volleyball team hit a snag on Saturday afternoon as they uncharacteristically dropped two matches to preseason-ranked opponents. With the losses SU falls to 7-3 overall.

The Pirates faced Puget Sound, who was ranked #25 in the AVCA preseason poll. Game one was tight and well-played on both sides but UPS pulled ahead winning 26-24. SU dropped the second game as well, 25-19 but rallied to outlast Puget Sound 29-27 in game three. Game four was much like the others, close the entire way, but SU was edged out 25-23 to lose 3-1.

Lindsay Thompson led Southwestern with 17 kills while Puget Sound's Natalie Monro was on fire, logging 28 kills.

Southwestern struggled from the outset in their second game of the day as they faced #13 ranked Christopher Newport. The Pirates had a meager .086 hitting percentage for the match and were bested 25-19, 25-21, 25-21. Thompson and Jill Wigington each had nine kills a piece to lead the Pirates while Annie Hutson led with 15 digs.

Southwestern returns home next weekend to open up SCAC Conference action, hosting their first crossover of the season. They open up against Birmingham Southern on the 17th at 2:00 pm.
