GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Pirates had to win a total of nine
games over the weekend to sweep the Southwestern Invitational, and
after at 3-0 victory over a hard-hitting Wiley College team they
did just that. With the win SU improves to 6-3 on the season.

taking game one 25-11.

7-7. Wiley took a brief lead at 9-7 but the Pirates responded to
bring the game even at 12 a piece. An ace by Ali Zein-Eldin
(pictured, left) that fell just past the 10 foot line gave
Southwestern the 13-12 lead and SU never looked back, winning 25-21
on a Wildcat service error.
The final game was a back and forth match to the end as there were
five ties until a solo block by Lindsay Thompson (pictured, right)
and a combined block by Thompson and Christina Nicholls got things
rolling and gave Southwestern the 11-8 lead. The Pirates closed out
the match with an explanation point on an kill by Audra Gentry,
winning 25-22.
Southwestern opens conference action next weekend at their first
West/Central Crossover held in San Antonio, Texas. Their first game
