SEGUIN, Texas – The Southwestern Pirates, ranked 20th in the latest AVCA poll for NCAA Division III, got back to their winning ways as they defeated one of the top teams in the ASC, Texas Lutheran, in four sets, 25-18, 17-25, 25-18, 25-14, Wednesday night. The Pirates improve to 3-3 on the season while TLU falls to 3-2.
After splitting the first two games Southwestern broke open the
match by running away with games three and four.
Senior Audra Gentry (pictured) led SU with 15 kills with a .300
hitting percentage and added 13 digs on the evening. Sophomore
Lindsay Thompson continued her consistent play and contributed 11
kills and hit .375. Senior Sam Lingemfelter recorded 24 digs, and
Ali Zein-Eldin added 19 digs for the Pirates. Southwestern setter
Christina Nicholls registered 41 assists.
Southwestern hit .266 as a team and held TLU to .096.
Jessica Stetler led the Bulldogs with 15 kills while TLU's Blair
O’Brien collected a team-best 22 digs and Bulldog setter
Amanda Curry dished out 33 assists.
Southwestern returns home to host the Southwestern Invitational.
They open the tournament on Friday evening against Hardin-Simmons
