Women's Track & Field Competes In DIII Challenge

SEGUIN, Texas — The Southwestern women's track and field team competed in the 2021 Division III Challenge hosted by Texas Lutheran University. 

Tiamara Hill-Johnson was victorious in the discus throw, leading the field with a distance of 42.06 meters to set a new school record. Erin Toro placed sixth in the event, throwing a distance of 35.39 meters. Toro also competed in the javelin throw, recording a distance of 24.49 meters to place eighth, the shot put, finishing with a throw of 10.22 meters to place sixth, and the hammer throw, placing third with a distance of 36.93 meters. 

Southwestern placed fifth in the 4x100 meter relay with Erica Robuck, Dejahnae Thompson, Lauren Mackrell, Erin Kelly, and Keamber McCracken, finishing with a time of 54.51. Southwestern fared better in the 4x400 relay, with McCracken, Thompson, Kelly, and Robuck placing third with a time of 4:42.41. 

Laura Carrasco Torres placed third in the 5,000-meter run, clocking in at 20:48.54. Thompson placed sixth in the 400-meter dash, recording a time of 1:05.40. McCracken placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.49. Hannah Jones finished eighth in the long jump, jumping 1.32 meters high. 

Southwestern will return to action on Saturday, April 10, competing in the University of Incarnate Word Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
