Women's Track and Field Opens SCAC Championships in Fifth

SAN ANTONIO – The Southwestern University Pirates women's track and field team finished Day 1 of the SCAC Track and Field Championships in fifth place.

Hannah Bruce picked up a second-place finish in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 43.49, earning Second Team All-SCAC. Teammate Erin Torro finished fourth with a mark of 41.50, Jaelynn Stewart finished in seventh, scoring a 35.23m and Mercedes Gonzalez finished 10th at 29.51m.

Morgan Gilpin finished seventh in the Javelin with a 29.98 and Toro finished 11th with a distance of 25.51m.

Competition resumes tomorrow with the women's 5000-meter final at 8:00 a.m., followed by the men's event at 8:30 a.m. Field events begin at 9 a.m., with the women's shot put and women's high jump as well as finals in the men's long jump and men's discuss.
