SEGUIN, Texas - Morgan Gilpin has been her own toughest competition all year and she continued her streak at the SCAC Track & Field Championships Saturday, taking the top spot in the women's javelin with a throw of 105'.
Field events were a high point for Southwestern. Hannah Bruce took second in the hammer throw with a toss of 40.26m while Nacona Carter-Maddux (36.65m) and Erin Toro (36.29m) also earned points for the Pirates in the event. Julia Glandt and Erin Toro also earned points for Southwestern in the discus. Glandt took fifth place with a throw of 11.04 meters while Toro came in sixth at 10.79 meters.
On the track, the 4x100 relay of Shine Trabucco, Mallory Harkins, Chelsea Hogue and Gilpin finished in the top five to earn two points for the Pirates with a time of 54.25 while the 4x400 team of Gilpin, Trinh Ha, Harkins and Sofia Garcia came in fourth to earn four points.
Southwestern finished fourth in the team standings. The championship marks the end of the 2018 season for the Pirates.
