Pirate Track and Field Battle Trinity in Dual Meet

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern University track and field team took on Trinity University in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon, putting together a solid outing throughout the day.

On the women's side, sophomore Morgan Gilpin competed in the javelin for the first time and won the event with a throw of 28.71m. A pair of freshmen added to a successful throw day as Julia Glandt placed second in the discus (33.36m) and third in the shot put (9.29m) while Nacona Carter-Maddux was second in the shot put (9.81m) and third in the discus (29.91m).

Sophomore Jalynn Ashley finished second in the 100m with a time of 13.78 while sophomore Mallory Harkins was second in the 400m at 1:04.69. Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams placed third while freshman Sofia Garcia was third in the 800m at 2:36.14.

On the men's side, senior Tyler Adams won the shot put at 12.02m and was third in the javelin at 35.13m. Junior Sam Grubbs earned a pair of second place finishes in the shot put (11.29m) and discus (34.93m). Freshman Brandon Jenkins was second in the high jump at 1.83m.

The Pirates will return to action in two weeks as they return to San Antonio for the third time, this time competing at Incarnate Word.
