LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southwestern University first-year Jalynn Ashley was selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Ashley posted a program record in the long jump at last week's UIW Cardinal Invitational. She jumped to a mark of 17-5½ (5.32m), besting Londyn Malone's former record of 16-10¾ (5.15m), which was set in 1999.

Additionally, the Huntsville native broke the school record in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 12.94 seconds, which was one-tenth of a second faster than Terrenee Knight's old mark of 13.04 seconds, set in 2004.

The Pirates will be back in action Thursday at the McMurry Open in Abilene.
