Pirates have strong showing in Abilene

The Southwestern men and women finished in sixth and eighth place, respectively, at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational in Abilene Saturday.

Briana Timourian won the women's 1500 meter run with a time of 5:14.01, edging out Ruth Fritz of Dallas by seven tenth of a second. Sara Cowan brought home eight points and a second place finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:11.25. Emily Boujemaa finished in fifth in the 3000 meter run in a time of 12:12.73.

Maya Adighibe had a strong day on the track but excelled in her field events, finishing fifth in the hammer (34.48 meters). Ellie Enis took seventh (29.50) and Molly Campbell eighth in the event (26.99). Anna Hugel posted a ninth place finish with a throw of 23.37 in the javelin.

Paden Williams finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.31. Abraham Devenport finished sixth in the 3000 meter run in 10:28.28 and Alex Medrano posted second in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:55.02.

Field events continued to be the strength for the men as Cody Taylor won the pole vault, clearing a distance of four meters. Tyler Adams finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 37.28 meters and seventh in the hammer with a throw of 35.42. Will Devine finished ninth with a throw of 12.07 meters and Jeremy Snyder sixth in the javelin (37.71 meters). 

Southwestern next competes at the UIW Invitational on Friday, April 10th in San Antonio.
