Pirates tune up for Championships at UIW Invite

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Southwestern competed in their final meet before the SCAC Conference Championship over the weekend, competing in the UIW Invitational.

Southwestern continued to shine in field events. The women's hammer competitors of Maya Adighibe, Ellie Enis and Molly Campbell threw huge personal bests and Adighibe set a new SU record in the event by seven meters with a throw of 31.71 meters for ninth place overall. Kimi Prevost posted a seventh place finish in the javelin, throwing 26.54 meters

Rance Thorne finished in third in the javelin with a throw of 42.13 while Joey Quintero came in seventh with a throw of 37.68. Quintero also finished in the top 10 in the hammer, posting a throw of 33.28 meters.

Will Devine was the highest DIII finisher in the shot put, taking home eighth place overall at 12.10 meters. Alec Bergerson and Philip Davis finished four, five in the triple jump. Bergerson jumped 11.78 meters and Davis 11.25 meters.

On the track, Lando Duarte posted a top ten finish in the 400, finishing in a time of 49.61 for ninth place while Lilly Duarte took home eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:21.28 and sixth in the 1500 with a time of 4:52.97. Emily Ammon finished in a time of 1:12.12 in the 400 hurdles to take home ninth place in the event.

The relays also brought home top ten finishes on both sides. The men's 4x100 of Wu, Huiszoon, Shaikh and Thorne finishing in third with a time of 47.41 and the 4x400 of Bergerson, Williams, El Hage and Duarte finished in seventh in a time of 3:34.81. For the women, the 4x100 of Prevost, Adighibe, Marcel and Ammon finished in fifth at 55.03 while the 4x400 comprised of Ammon, Koinis, Duarte and Marcel finished in 4:27.56 for ninth place.

The Pirates close out the season on April 26th as they compete in the SCAC Championships in San Antonio, hosted by Trinity University.
