Chas Mayer Wins Back-to-Back West Region Assistant Coach of the Year Awards

Chas Mayer Wins Back-to-Back West Region Assistant Coach of the Year Awards

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its regional awards, naming Southwestern assistant tennis coach Chas Mayer as the West Region Women's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year for a second consecutive year.

Mayer joined the Southwestern coaching staff in October 2019 after a solid tennis career with the Trinity Tigers. The former SCAC Player of the Year helped guide the women's team to a 16-5 record alongside head coach Billy Porter and assistant coach Tosha Smith. The latter was just as integral to Southwestern's success but not eligible in her first season.

"We are extremely fortunate to have two outstanding assistant coaches. Chas does outstanding work with both teams, and we are lucky to have him on our side," Porter says. "Tosha wasn't eligible for the award by rule in her first season but was extremely deserving of the nomination as well. Chas being a back-to-back winner of this award is a testament to how good he is in this role consistently."
