Women's Tennis Makes Quick Work of Shorthanded TLU

KERRVILLE, Texas — The rain delayed the Southwestern women's tennis match for several hours. Once the match started, the Pirates made quick work of the shorthanded Texas Lutheran Bulldogs, winning 5-0 in the first round of the SCAC Tournament.

Alli Ziehm and Emma Kesterson posted an 8-1 win over Paula Acosta and Kaitlyn Enloe in No. 1 doubles. At the No. 2 spot, Lauren Chisholm and Taylor Despriet shut out Haley Hoffman and Kayleigh Gardner 8-0. The Bulldogs did not field a third doubles team.

"Alli and Emma looked the part and got us a big point in doubles," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "Taylor and Lauren played good tennis together and were able to clinch for us, which was huge."

The Bulldogs only brought four players, and the match ended without a singles match being played.

"Starting six hours after the scheduled start was tough, and it showed in the first couple of games," Porter says. "Once we got going, we were strong at both spots."

Southwestern advances to the semifinals and will face Colorado College tomorrow morning at 9:00 after the Tigers defeated Austin College 5-0.
