No. 10 Women's Tennis Defeats No. 12 Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio — The no. 10-ranked Southwestern women's tennis team picked up its second win of the season, defeating the No. 12-ranked Denison Big Red. 

Southwestern opened with an 8-2 win in No. 3 doubles, with Taylor Despriet and Lauren Chisholm defeating Kendall Schrader and Hannah Bradvica. Alli Ziehm and Emma Kesterson followed with an 8-4 victory over Monique Brual and Caroline Lopez in No. 2 doubles. 

Denison halted Southwestern's momentum when Sarah Roberston and Sydney Cianciola bested Nina Mitrofanova and Lydia Lee 8-6 in No. 1 doubles. 

Despriet put Southwestern back on the board with the first singles victory, defeating Brual 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. Next, Sydney Wahl defeated Lopez 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot to put the Pirates on the brink of victory. 

Kesterson clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Bradvica in No. 3 singles to put Southwestern up 5-1. Then, Mitrofanova avenged her doubles loss with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Robertson in No. 1 singles. Ziehm followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Susan Biederstedt in No. 6 singles. Denison won the final match of the evening when Schrader defeated Lee 6-3, 6-1. 

Southwestern improves to 2-3, with all three losses coming to scholarship programs. The Pirates will play No. 4 Kenyon tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
